What Happens to NAD+ as We Age?

The Molecule Your Cells Don’t Want to Lose

Why NAD+ has become one of the most fascinating areas of longevity research.

One molecule. Hundreds of cellular processes. And considerably less of it as we get older. There is a reason scientists studying ageing have become so interested in NAD+.

It is everywhere.

Virtually every cell in your body needs it, and it plays an essential role in hundreds of biological processes, from producing cellular energy to supporting DNA repair and the enzymes involved in maintaining healthy cells.

When we are young, we have plenty of it.

Then we start losing it.

A lot.

As we get older, NAD+ levels decline. And when they do, some of the cellular processes that depend upon it can become less efficient too.

Think of NAD+ almost like the energy currency behind your cellular repair team.

Your mitochondria need it to help convert nutrients into usable cellular energy. Your DNA repair machinery uses it. And enzymes associated with longevity, including sirtuins, depend upon NAD+ to function.

So where does NMN come in?

NMN helps your body make NAD+

When we are young, our bodies produce abundant levels of NAD+, a molecule that helps keep us youthful, energised and able to repair and regenerate efficiently.

But as we age, NAD+ levels naturally decline. And because NAD+ is involved in cellular energy, DNA repair, mitochondrial function and many of the processes that keep our cells functioning at their best, that decline matters.

NMN is one of the best building blocks your body uses to produce NAD+. By providing NMN, we are essentially giving the body more of the raw material it needs to replenish its own NAD+ levels.

And this is where consistency matters.

You may notice changes in your energy, focus or overall vitality, but some of the most important work is happening quietly, deep inside your cells.

You may not see it happening. But your cells know the difference.

How should you take it?

Sometimes, one of the most powerful things we can do is simply give the body more of what it needs to do what it already knows how to do.

And that is precisely why we included 500 mg of NMN in every Ki NMN capsule.

Not because ageing is about fixing one wrinkle, one symptom or one number.

It is about supporting the processes happening underneath them.

We recomend that you take one capsule daily, providing 500 mg of NMN, preferably in the morning. Avoid taking it in the late afternoon or evening as you may feel too energized to sleep.

If you are over 45 to 50 and have never taken NMN before, you may wish to begin with two capsules, providing 1,000 mg daily, for the first two months, before reducing to one capsule daily for ongoing support.

For context, Professor David Sinclair, one of the world’s best-known longevity experts, has publicly shared that he takes 1,000 mg of NMN daily as part of his own regimen.

Beacause healthy ageing begins at cellular level.
